How does
Cialis work?

Cialis works in a similar way to Viagra. It contains a drug called tadalafil, which relaxes and opens the blood vessels in the penis, allowing blood to flow into it more easily, improving your chances of getting and keeping an erection. Cialis won’t give you an automatic erection though, you need to be aroused for it to work, and then Cialis helps turn that arousal into an erection.

HOW TO TAKE CIALIS

Cialis is taken as a tablet, which you should swallow with water. You should take Cialis at least 30 minutes before you plan to have sex. It comes in four strengths, 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg. The starting dose for Cialis is usually 10mg. You shouldn’t take more than one tablet in 36 hours and never combine with other ED medications.

HOW LONG DOES CIALIS LAST?

Although Cialis contains a similar active ingredient to Viagra and other ED meds and they work in similar ways, the effects of Cialis last much longer than Viagra. Whereas Viagra tends to last up to four hours, the effects of Cialis can continue for up to 36 hours, which is why it’s sometimes called ‘the weekend pill’. This longer-lasting action has led Cialis to become a very popular treatment for erectile dysfunction.

How safe is
Cialis?

Cialis is safe for most men to take. It’s gone through clinical trials, and it’s an approved drug by medical agencies around the world. Like all medications though, it can have side effects. Most are relatively mild, like headaches, indigestion, and muscle pains, but more severe side effects can happen. It’s for this reason why Cialis should only be taken by adult men who have ED.

Other common
questions

Why is Cialis called 'the weekend pill'?

The effects of Cialis can last for up to 36 hours, so it is sometimes referred to as ‘the weekend pill’. This doesn’t mean that you will have an erection for 36 hours as your erection will go away as normal after sex. You should be able to get more than one erection in this time though if you are sexually aroused.

How effective is Cialis?

Cialis is a very effective treatment for erectile dysfunction in men. In clinical studies, 81% of men reported that Cialis helped to improve their erections. If you find that Cialis is not working for you, contact our doctors who may recommend a different dosage or alternative ED treatment.

When should I take Cialis?

Cialis is usually taken 30 minutes before you plan to have sex, as this is the average time it takes to start working. The effects of Cialis can last up to 36 hours though, so it can help with your erections over, taking a low dose once a day. If you expect to have sex twice a week or more, the daily lower dose may be more suitable for you. If approved for the medication, our doctors will decide on your dose and how often you should take it based on your personal situation and your health. Make sure you always take Cialis as directed by our doctors.

Can I take Cialis daily?

Yes, the lower dosages of Cialis are suitable to take every day. Taking a daily dose means that there will be consistent levels of the medication in your body. This can benefit men who are likely to have sex more than twice a week, as you should be able to achieve an erection at any time you want, without the need to remember to take Cialis 30 minutes before sex.

Is Cialis suitable for all men?

Cialis is usually an effective and well-tolerated treatment for ED. However, you should not take Cialis if you are taking certain medications, like nitrates or alpha-blockers. Always tell our doctors about any medications you are taking, including over the counter meds and supplements.

What does Cialis do?

Cialis works in a similar way to Viagra and other ED meds as it is part of a group called PDE5 inhibitors. Cialis relaxes the blood vessels in the penis which causes them to widen and fill with blood more easily. It’s when they fill with blood that you get an erection.
The meds won’t give you an erection without sexual stimulation, however. You need to feel desire and be sexually stimulated. That means engaging in foreplay. Cialis then helps with getting and keeping an erection. Whereas the effects of Viagra and Levitra usually last for around four hours, Cialis is longer lasting, and can help with erections for up to 36 hours.

Does Cialis work every time?

If Cialis has worked for you before, it will likely work again. There may be some circumstances where the medication doesn’t work, for example, if you have drank too much alcohol or if you are particularly anxious or not aroused enough. We recommend trying Cialis at the same dose a few times before changing it. Some men may need specialist treatment, including psychological counselling, to help treat the root cause of their ED.

How long does Cialis take to work?

Cialis can take as little as 30 minutes to work, but it usually takes around two hours before its effects are felt. This varies from man to man, depending on how your body reacts to the drug, and on what dose you take.

What happens if you take two Cialis pills?

If you take more Cialis than you should (more than your prescribed dose), you should contact a healthcare professional immediately, as taking too much Cialis can increase the chances of you having side effects.

Does Cialis have side effects?

Most men don’t experience side effects, however, like all medications, they are possible. Common side effects include headache, back pain, facial flushing, indigestion and nasal congestion. These side effects are usually mild and will go away after a short amount of time. For more information on Cialis side effects, please refer to the patient information leaflet that comes with your medication.

How can I avoid Cialis side effects?

It isn’t possible to guarantee that you won’t experience side effects. However, you should always take Cialis exactly as prescribed and never exceed the recommended dose. You can also help by avoiding drinking large amounts of alcohol or taking recreational drugs alongside Cialis and making sure that any other medicines you take don’t interact.

How many years can you take Cialis for?

Longer-term studies of Cialis haven’t found any adverse effects of taking the drug when done so for up to two years. If you take Cialis long term, it is sensible to keep track of how you’re feeling, and if you think the effects of the drug are changing over time, you should discuss it with us.

Which is better Viagra or Cialis?

Both drugs have been shown to be effective at treating ED, but the main difference between them is that the effects of Cialis usually last for longer. Viagra can help with erections for up to four hours, where Cialis can help for up to 36 hours.
Which treatment is better for you depends on how often you have sex, and how important spontaneity is. If you have sex often, and it’s usually unplanned, then Cialis may be the more suitable option. It also depends on how you react to the meds. You might find one is more effective, and/or you have less side effects with one.

What are the differences between Cialis and tadalafil?

Cialis and tadalafil contain the same active drug and they work in the same way. The biggest difference between the two is price. When the drug was first sold it was marketed under the brand name Cialis. You can now buy cheaper generic versions, under the name tadalafil.
