Does Viagra make you last longer?

Thinking about how long you last in bed? Would you like to last longer? Most guys would be lying if they said it didn’t cross their mind at some point in their lives. It’s a normal part of being a guy. In fact, scientists are thinking about it too. And they’re telling us that as many as 39% of men don’t last as long as they’d like to during sex. That’s more than one in three of us guys!

So, what are you going to do about it? We all know Viagra is famous for helping men with erections. Is Viagra the answer to lasting longer in bed? Let’s find out.

Does Viagra make you last longer in bed?

We’ve heard plenty of tall stories about Viagra. About men who’ve had erections for hours. About lads who stay hard after climaxing and those who are transformed into sexual tyrannosaurs. Any truth in them? Not really.

Viagra – also available as the generic drug sildenafil – is a prescription medication developed and tested to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It’s exactly that – an ED treatment. It’s not a lifestyle drug that generally improves your sexual performance or a treatment developed for premature ejaculation.

But there has been some research conducted into this area. The results aren’t promising though guys. One study of 180 men with premature ejaculation found that Viagra did cause a modest increase in the time the men lasted before ejaculation. But other studies have failed to repeat this finding. The reality is that Viagra is not an effective premature ejaculation treatment for most men. Sorry.

What does Viagra do?

Viagra improves the flow of blood to the penis, making it easier to get and keep an erection. This is what Viagra was made to do. Scientific research has shown it can have other benefits too such as:

  • Viagra may help you get an erection faster again after an orgasm. Your refractory period is the time it takes you to recover after an orgasm and to be able to get an erection again. A number of studies showed that Viagra can reduce a man’s refractory period. This effect wasn’t always found consistently in research however so Viagra may affect some men this way but not others.
  • Viagra may make you more confident in bed if you have ED. Viagra can take the worry out of getting and keeping an erection, letting you focus on having fun.

What doesn’t Viagra do?

Viagra most likely won’t help you last longer in bed. A range of other false claims are commonly made about Viagra. Ever heard any of these?

  • Does Viagra make you horny? Contrary to what you might have heard Viagra doesn’t increase your libido. It won’t make you want to have sex or have sex more often.
  • Will Viagra give you an automatic erection? Viagra won’t give you an automatic erection. You have to feel sexual desire first and then Viagra helps to turn that desire into an erection.
  • Does Viagra make you bigger? Although Viagra does increase the flow of blood into your penis this won’t make it any bigger when you’re erect. Your penis won’t fill with more blood than it would otherwise.
  • Does Viagra keep you hard after coming? There are stories of men ejaculating but staying hard after taking Viagra. Sadly there isn’t scientific evidence to back this up. Viagra won’t keep you hard except when it causes a rare and dangerous side effect called priapism. Not a good one.

How can you last longer in bed?

If you want to last longer Viagra isn’t your saviour. But you can try the following:

  • Use a condom as this can reduce sensation and help you last longer. You can even buy condoms that contain a numbing agent to help further reduce sensation.
  • Use lubricant as it can reduce friction and the pleasure it causes, helping you delay your climax.
  • Wear a cock ring. Not only can cock rings help you last longer but you can even buy vibrating ones that add a whole new superpower to your penis.
  • Masturbate an hour or two before you have sex as you may last longer if you’ve already ejaculated.
  • Learn to delay your orgasm when masturbating. You could learn to stop when you get close to ejaculating then wait for the sensations to decrease before masturbating again. By doing this you may be able to train yourself to last longer.
  • Try Kegel exercises as research has shown they can help you last longer and have better control over when you ejaculate.
  • Focus on other areas of sex. Penetrative sex is only one aspect of sex. If you focus more on foreplay, oral sex or other aspects of sex that your partner enjoys then it can take the emphasis off penetrative sex and ease any concerns about premature ejaculation.
